Feed the child. Nourish the future.

Who We Are:

As parents we were disturbed to discover that there are children in our neighborhood that are coming to school hungry. Hand Up for the Children is a grassroots organization who believes in community partnerships aimed at providing quality nutritious food to children. We are a compassion driven organization dedicated to investing in the long term well being of every child.

What We Do:

During the academic year disadvantaged children in the school are provided breakfasts and lunches; but during weekends, evenings, holidays, and summers these children are going hungry. With the generosity of members in the community, Whole Foods Market and anonymous donations, we have been able to feed 25 families from Charles Hay World School throughout the school year. These donations are packaged into backpacks for the children to pick every Friday afternoon.

Hunger is not limited to the school year though; it worsens in the summer months when the free school meals are not available. Families with the greatest need are being provided the nutritional basics such as milk, eggs, and bread throughout the summer holiday by Royal Crest.

Beyond the nutritional needs of the children in our neighborhood we come across kids in need of seasonally appropriate clothing. We have been applying the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle program with the school to help provide warm clothing, gloves and boots for those tough weather days. Giving hearts and communal involvement are vital for getting help to these children that desperately need it.

Where We Are Going:

Beginning with Charles Hay World School we are dedicated to expanding our scope to include all elementary and middle schools in Denver and surrounding areas. We are working on encouraging new community partnerships to match existing corporate sponsors in order to provide children with at least 3 healthy meals each weekend. A volunteer based distribution network is vital for expanding to new areas. Allowing for the children in need of assistance to access the nutritional services Hand Up for the Children provides. Partnerships and collaboration with established local initiatives such as WIC, food banks, and religious organizations that will further our reach in filling the void of hunger.
